I love using Illustrator for the reasons mentioned above and because I can find so many resources online to assist with questions I may have. Overall, my tool of preference when creating SVG files is Adobe Illustrator.
If you plan to create SVG files as a hobby, you can stick with using Inkscape. Once you see where it is, you realize that it's an obvious place.so if it can't do something you wish it could, just ask on the Inkscape list or something, it probably can. You should also use Adobe Illustrator if you plan to make money by selling SVG files on Etsy, Creative Market, or your own website. Last note: Sometimes a feature you don't think exists is there, just not where you expect to find it. The mailing list is also very friendly and helpfull. Inkscape rocks! It's a solid program that has a really good UI and still manages to be very powerfull. I've only spent about 15 minutes in Illustrator, but use Inkscape all the time.
